Brugarol is a family venture that began with a deep-rooted connection to the land. In the late 1950s, the Engelhorn family discovered the beauty of this estate, spending summers exploring the landscape and growing a profound respect for its natural surroundings. What started as a place for adventure soon evolved into something more. With a vision to restore the land to its original state and preserve its natural beauty, the first vines were planted in the late 90s, laying the foundation for what Brugarol is today.
At Brugarol, we believe that nature leads the way. Our winemaking philosophy is centred around minimal intervention, allowing the grapes and terroir to express themselves fully. Each wine is crafted biodynamically and sustainably, capturing the unique character of the land with every bottle.
For us, this is not just a process—it’s a legacy, a way to honor the land and share its story through our wines.
Our Philosophy:
The Art of Minimal Intervention.
Organic and Biodynamic Practices
We are committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Our vineyards are farmed sustainably, without synthetic chemicals, to promote healthy soils and vibrant ecosystems. This natural approach ensures that our wines are not only good for the earth but also a true reflection of the land they come from.
Minimal Intervention, Maximum Expression
At Brugarol, we follow a minimalist philosophy in the cellar. While not all of our wines are sulphite-free, we aim for low sulphite levels, adding only what’s absolutely necessary to ensure the wine's stability and longevity. We also avoid animal-derived fining agents, making all our wines vegan. This commitment to purity ensures that the taste you experience is the grape, unaltered.
Mono-Varietal Focus
Our dedication to mono-varietal wines is at the heart of everything we do. By focusing on a single grape variety in each bottle, we allow the natural flavours and characteristics of that grape to stand on their own. Whether it’s Garnatxa, Malvasia, or Xarelo, this method gives a clear expression of the grape and the environment it grows in, allowing each individual bottle to tell its own story.
Respecting Nature’s Rhythm
We see ourselves as guides of the natural process, letting the grape and its environment dictate the wine’s journey. By working with the rhythms of nature, from the vineyard to the bottle, we embrace the uniqueness of each growing season, resulting in wines that vary subtly from year to year, offering an authentic expression of their origin.
