The Brugarol Estate
Spanning several vineyards, from Mas del Vent to Bell Lloc, our estate is a celebration of nature and architecture. Each vine is nurtured by the elements-creating wines that are unique to their vintage and terroir. We focus on native grape varieties like Garnatxa, Malvasia, Carinyena, Monastrell, and Xarelo, cultivating wines that express the true character of the land.
Our winery’s success lies in our fearless and playful approach of pushing boundaries, reflected not only in the wines we produce but also in the numerous awards we've received over the years. Every award is a testament to our dedication to innovation while staying rooted in nature.
Brugarol is not only a place of winemaking but also an estate that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. At the heart of our estate is the ‘Celler de Brugarol’, a unique wine cellar designed by the acclaimed architectural firm RCR Arquitectes, winners of the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2017.
In collaboration with RCR, the wine cellar was envisioned as a structure that reflects the natural environment while respecting the raw beauty of the landscape. Built in 2007, the ‘Celler de Brugarol’ is a semi-submerged structure constructed using corten steel—a material chosen for its ability to weather and age naturally over time, developing a type of rust that integrates harmoniously with the surrounding earth. This material also symbolises strength, endurance, and the passage of time—qualities that resonate with our winemaking philosophy.
The architects utilised locally sourced materials, to ground the structure in the terroir itself. This creates a wine cellar that doesn’t merely occupy the land but integrates into it. Creating a visual connection between the architecture and the landscape. The semi-submerged design helps to maintain optimal natural temperature and humidity levels for aging wine, ensuring that the process is as sustainable as it is functional.
A key feature of the wine cellar is the architects' innovative play with light and shadow. The structure is carefully designed to maximise natural light, which filters in through narrow openings, casting dramatic shadows across the corten steel and stone walls. This creates a constantly shifting visual experience that mirrors the changing seasons and the dynamic nature of the vineyard itself.
By combining minimalist design with the principles of sustainability, the ‘Celler de Brugarol’ represents our commitment to respecting the land while creating a space that enhances the winemaking process. The result is a cellar that is not only aesthetically striking but also highly functional, preserving the integrity of our wines and the natural environment in which they are crafted.
This architectural approach is a reflection of our broader philosophy at Brugarol: to work in harmony with nature, using innovative, sustainable practices while respecting the land’s history and essence.
